Waxing is a form of hair removal that removes the entire hair from the hair follicle. Unlike shaving, Nair or clippers, which bluntly cut the hair at the surface. Warm wax is applied to the skin and “shrink-wraps” around the hair follicle allowing the hair to be pulled from the root. Because the entire hair is removed, skin is left very smooth and outlasts any other form of hair removal, you won't believe it till you try it.
Yes, possibly. The upper lip, back, and chest are all areas that are prone to breakouts. If you have a tendency towards ingrown hairs and irritation from shaving, you are more likely to have the same reactions waxing, although dramatically decreased. To minimize skin reactions, you MUST use proper home care and come to get waxed on a regular schedule.
Most people get waxed every 4 weeks with great success. Please keep in mind that It is important to have 3 weeks of outgrowth before your initial waxing to have maximum hair removal.
We suggest wearing loose clothing. The skin is usually sensitive post waxing service and you won’t want to wear anything that rubs. You will not leave in discomfort perse, but expect the waxed area to be sensitive.
It’s like working out at the gym. You don’t automatically lose 10lbs on your first visit, right? It’s the same thing with waxing. You will not get the best wax until your 3rd wax. This is due to the 3 stages of hair growth. So, 3 growth stages + 3 waxes = the best wax. By “best wax” we mean: No hair left behind, ultimate smoothness, slow hair regrowth, and little skin irritation.
Yes, absolutely! Though your skin might be a little more sensitive.
Prior to your initial service, you will complete an intake consult form. Please advise your esthetician of any medical or skin conditions and also if you are taking any medications prescribed by a doctor such as Retin-A or Accutane. Users of Retin-A, Renova, Differin, or Accutane are advised not to use waxing on the face as these medications tend to weaken the skin. Because of this, tearing of the skin may occur when the wax is removed.
Yes! Please do not cancel your appointment if you have your menstrual cycle. Just insert a tampon and you’re good to go. Take note, there are differing opinions as to whether or not waxing hurts more on your cycle. Some do believe the pain is worse while others experience no changes in discomfort at all.
We can work around your piercing if you aren’t able to remove it. The cool thing about our wax is that it only adheres to hair. We also will place a small amount of jasmine oil on your piercing(s) to add a little extra protection.
If you become a regular waxer you’ll notice that your hair will become sparser, making it easier to wax…and less painful!
These medications increase the rate at which your skin exfoliates so waxing could potentially remove the skin as well as hair. Please let your Esthetician know immediately if you are on any medications. Also be aware that chemical peels, laser, and micro-dermabrasion can also affect skin integrity.
When you wax, the entire hair shaft is removed, root and all, rather than cutting it off at the surface of the skin like you do when you shave. This leaves your skin super smooth with no stubble. Waxing also lasts much longer than shaving, and the hair grows back thinner and finer with repeated treatments.
Taking a mild pain killer 30-45 minutes prior to waxing will help a little with the pain. There are also topical numbing creams available that you can apply 30 minutes before your appointment. Avoid caffeine before waxing. If you are female, avoiding waxing the week before and of your period will reduce sensitivity. Taking these steps will decrease the amount of pain you experience, but nothing makes waxing completely pain-free.
If your hair is longer than 1/2-inch long, it might be too long to wax. Before your appointment, you can lightly trim the hair with a pair of clean hair cutting shears.
